Provisional Sums & Prime Costs

Provisional sum allowances (PS) and Prime costs (PC) can be confusing, however we aim to make the use of these contract mechanisms straightforward and easy to understand. We only use them where we think there is a benefit to your project.

PROVISIONAL SUMS

PS allowances are used to cover the supply and installation of a particular element of work, usually something that is known to be required, but not yet sufficiently detailed in design. Some examples include – cabinetry, earthworks, floorcoverings – items where the entire package of work is included.

PRIME COSTS

Prime costs sums are for the supply of particular materials and are often included as a per item allowance or a square metre price. Some examples may include – $/m² for wall tiles, or a monetary allowance for tapware fittings or appliances.
